Sad tale of the Toronto Academy of Medicine
The Toronto Academy of Medicine exists as a "shell" in a storage room at SUNNYBROOK Hospital in North Toronto. There is money deposited from the sale of the 288 Bloor building, the interest is used for a free yearly dinner lecture meeting at the VAUGHAN ESTATE donated to Sunnybrook Hospital. The acting President is Ophthalmologist John FOWLER MD(Tor.1958) FRCSC(1972) of 199 Golfdale road, Toronto M4N 2B7.Te:416- 483-5106.. The Academy has lost its Charitable status. There is no yearly AGM. .Recently Dr.Fowler commissioned Academy ties in Blue & Red. With support from the profession & industry, the Academy could be restored to its former important role in Toronto Medicine.

There are over 10,000 Toronto-Scarborough Dist.11 members but only about 100 attended a free Dinner AGM. As usual there was no competition for Pres.,Sec & Treasurer.posts. (The Academy exists in a store room at the Vaughan estate, a mansion donated to Sunnybrook Hospital , used for meetings and receptions.)
Acting Academy President Dr.John FOWLER:
Ophthalmologist John FOWLER MD(Tor.1958) FRCSC (1972) 100 Golfdale rd, Tor.,Ont. M4N 2B7 Tel:416 483 5106 has a` problem with having a yearly AGM and producing yearly Financial statements.. The Academy has lost its Charity tax status due to default in sending Annual accounts .
The Academy was named in a recent report in the Ont. Med. Review on a CME on Eye Disorders for GPs.
(Toronto does not have a functional Clinical society. reflected in the limited Clinical acumen which causes those who value their lives to subscribe to Private "Wellness Clinics" such as $3,500/yr Cleveland Clinic Canada)..
